Pupils in years 3 to year 8 are given one to one tuition each day.
Every pupil in Years 3 to 8 receives a daily 30-minute one-to-one lesson with a specialist teacher. These lessons are timetabled so the whole class attends at the same time, ensuring no pupil misses other lessons or feels singled out.
Specialist Teachers
Our one-to-one teachers hold specialist qualifications in dyslexia and have experience supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, and developmental language disorder. Many hold AMBDA/APC accreditation, and some are certified Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts. All have training in assistive technology and communication needs, and several are studying for further qualifications.
Individualised Support
Lessons are carefully planned to meet each pupil鈥檚 unique needs and interests. Teachers build on what pupils already know and use a mix of approaches – including visual, hands-on and spoken activities – to help them understand and remember new ideas.
Lessons might include phonics, reading comprehension, spelling, maths, handwriting, typing, emotional regulation, and preparation for transitions such as entrance exams. Teachers adapt lessons to meet pupils鈥 needs on the day – whether that means revisiting a tricky concept or supporting a child through an emotional moment.
Common strategies include visual timetables, movement breaks, fiddle tools, and changes of environment to help pupils stay regulated and engaged.
Assessment and Planning
Pupils are assessed using a combination of formal tools and informal observations. These help us understand how each child learns best. Every term, teachers work with colleagues and therapists to create an Individual Education Plan (IEP), which sets out clear goals and strategies. These plans are shared with families and used to guide daily teaching.
Collaboration and Continuity
Pupils usually stay with the same teacher for two years, building trust and consistency. Weekly meetings with SENCOs and senior staff ensure joined-up support across the school.
